Tesla launches its first bike, but it isn't what fans expected
If you're one of the people who got hyped when Tesla announced it would be making a bike, your bubble may be about to burst. The company has launched its first bike, but for most people, it's probably not anything like what you expected.
A bike with no pedals or motor
So you've been waiting for the Tesla bike to be released and the time is finally here. The problem is, it doesn't look or perform like the bike you were likely imagining.
Tesla has released a bike that has no pedals, no motor, and most gut-punching of all, it's for toddlers.
Called the Balance Bike for Kids, it sells for $225 and is available on the company's website. It's meant for toddlers ages two to five.
Many were hoping for an e-bike
It looks like many people are left disappointed by the announcement, especially since so many were expecting it to be an e-bike with a motor.
Considering Tesla prides itself on being tech-forward, it was natural to assume the bike would have a motor. Not only that, but it would be for adults.
This isn't the first time Tesla has made a product for kids, but its safety record isn't exactly pristine. The Tesla Cyberquad ATV for kids was recalled for violating ATV safety standards.
Meant to help toddlers learn to ride
The whole point of the pedalless bike is to help toddlers learn balance so they can eventually ride a standard bike. It's a design that's been around a while; this is just Tesla's foray into it.
It features a lightweight white magnesium frame and a five-way adjustable seat. You'll also get all the tools needed for assembly.
The bike can handle kids up to 77 lbs with a minimum leg length of 13.7 inches.
You could be waiting a while still
If you had dreams of owning a Tesla e-bike, it looks like that's still a dream, at least for now. In the meantime, if you've got a toddler, it could be exactly what they want.
