Lands' End customers can claim up to $5,000 after data breach
If you made a purchase at Lands' End, you may be eligible to receive part of a cash settlement. The retailer has been accused of failing to prevent a data breach that happened in December 2024.
Sensitive consumer information was compromised
The class action lawsuit alleged that Lands' End could have prevented a data breach from happening by using reasonable cybersecurity measures.
Customers' details, such as passport information, driver's license numbers, Social Security numbers, and medical data, were compromised. Once the data breach was announced, customers were quick to respond and take legal action.
Lands' End has agreed to pay the settlement but hasn't agreed to any wrongdoing.
Class members can receive up to $5,000 with documented proof
The settlement allows class members to receive up to $5,000 each for documented out-of-pocket expenses. These can include such things as ID replacement costs, credit-related fees, and identity theft and fraud.
You'll need bank statements, receipts, etc., to show as your documented proof. Even if you didn't suffer any specific issues and don't have any out-of-pocket costs, you can still claim up to $60.
Also part of the settlement is providing all class members with two years of free credit monitoring through CyEx Financial Shield Complete. This includes $1 million in financial fraud insurance and monitoring for identity theft and fraud.
Claim forms need to be submitted by the deadline
Claimants will need to act fast because the deadline for submitting your claim form is Oct. 22, 2026. There will be a final approval hearing on Nov. 6, 2026, and after that, the payments will be distributed.
You can never be too careful with your personal data
Data breaches are unfortunately nothing new. The sheer hassle of having to replace all your cards and pieces of ID, never mind the more serious consequences, means it has to be taken seriously.
