Those on the East Coast will continue to be disappointed by In-N-Out's expansion plans. The burger chain has released a list of six new locations opening soon, all of which continue to be in the country's western states.

Notoriously missing from the East Coast

In-N-Out Burger is so popular it practically has a cult-like following. This makes it a hard pill to swallow for East Coasters who are continually snubbed and have no locations.

The restaurant has consistently cited costs and logistics as preventing expansion into the East Coast.

Part of the chain's appeal is that its burgers are all supplied from its fresh-food distribution hub in East Texas. Not only that, it never freezes its ingredients. This means its distribution chain needs to be within a one-day drive.

“I don’t see us being on the East Coast in my lifetime,” CEO Lynsi Snyder told a crowd of students and faculty during a forum at Pepperdine University in April. “We won’t compromise on quality just to expand.”

California is named among others for new locations

It probably doesn't come as much of a surprise, but the chain's home state of California is getting some of the new locations. Locations will open in Commerce, Irvine, and Stockton.

Joining the list of new locations are San Tan Valley, Arizona; Twin Falls, Idaho; and St. George, Utah. The exact opening dates haven't been announced yet.

Resisting East Coast expansion may be smart

Even though East Coasters may feel disappointed that they'll never see a local In-N-Out, some brand experts say it's a smart move by the chain.

“Brands with strong followings do not need to be available everywhere. They create destinations,” said Amore Philips, a New York-based public relations strategist.

“In-N-Out has fostered loyalty through scarcity and consistency, achieving more than most brands that rely on widespread convenience,” said Philips.

Add it to your bucket list when visiting the West Coast

At this point, if you live in an Eastern state, your best bet is to add a visit to In-N-Out to your bucket list the next time you travel west.
