FDA announces recall of 15 varieties of cough drops sold nationwide

With cold and flu season still hitting many people across the country, a recall on cough drops will hit especially hard. The FDA has announced a recall of 15 varieties of cough drops following an inspection of a manufacturing facility.

The FDA conducted an inspection at a manufacturing facility that produces several brands and types of cough drops. It was determined that a Class II recall was required.

A Class II recall means that exposure to the product, the cough drop, could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.

The FDA put out the following statement regarding using the recalled cough drops:

 “Generally, continue taking the medicine unless the recalling company provides other instructions. In some instances, stopping your medicine may be more harmful to your health than continuing to take the recalled medicine," read the statement.

"However, everyone's health situation is different, so you may want to consult your doctor or a pharmacist before taking the recalled cough drops," the FDA advised.
