If you've always wanted to experience flying first class, Delta's new cheaper rate could make it possible. But not so fast. Before you book your ticket, several perks are being removed that might make or break it for you.

A scaled-back premium cabin experience

Delta has announced lower-priced "Basic" fares for its premium cabins. Yeah, you get the business class experience but some of the "soft" amenities are stripped away.

“This expansion gives customers more ways to choose the Delta experience that best fits their trip, and a new way to access our premium tier products,” said Joe Esposito, executive vice president, chief commercial officer.

Basic fares are just that: basic

Delta's Basic fares in the premium cabins remove conveniences and perks like seat assignments, ticket change flexibility, mileage earning, and the increased checked baggage allowance.

Those "soft" amenities may not matter to you, but for others, that was a big part of the first-class cabin experience.

Other features that aren't available with Basic Business fares are access to the Delta One Lounges and Delta Sky Clubs, as well as the dedicated Delta One check-in areas. This particular elimination has a delayed start date.

“As customers become accustomed to the new fare parameters, access to the Delta One Lounge and Delta Sky Club will be permitted on a Basic Business ticket for travel dates through Jan. 18, 2027,” reads the official notice from the airline.

Delta says it will still focus on customer experience

Regardless of the fare you're buying, Delta assures customers that the overall in-flight experience is still a priority.

Delta isn't the only airline dipping its toes into discounted business fares. Earlier this year, United Airlines made a similar announcement.

Just like Delta, United Airlines stripped away some of its amenities in exchange for cheaper business class fares.

Ideal for budget-savvy flyers

This new budget-friendly business class fare isn't going to be for everyone, but if you've been curious about premium cabin seating, these fares could be the push you need.
