CVS is now filling prescriptions for your dog and cat

Talk about convenience. Not only can CVS fill your prescriptions, but all locations can now fill some of your dog's and cat's common prescriptions. You may also be able to set up features like automatic refills and delivery.

Getting your pet's medications is now easier

If you're a pet owner, then you know how inconvenient it can be to get medications from the vet. You're at the mercy of their limited hours, which aren't always great, and sometimes they don't have what you need in stock.

CVS is stepping in to fill an important need of making pet medications easier to access. All 9,000 plus CVS locations nationwide are taking part in the new offering, which means there's likely one nearby.

“We’re proud to be a trusted partner in our patients’ health care journeys,” said Sid Tenneti, senior vice president and interim president of pharmacy and consumer wellness at CVS Health, in a statement. “With the addition of pet medication dispensing, CVS Pharmacy can now serve every member of the family.”

Common prescriptions will be offered

Before you get too excited about this new service, not all pet medications will be available at CVS. It's mainly the common ones such as allergy medications, antibiotics, insulin, flea and tick control, and pain relievers.

Some locations will also offer the same pharmacy services as human prescriptions. This can include prescription syncing, automatic refills, and even delivery.

You'll need to speak to your local CVS pharmacy to find out what's offered.

You'll still need a prescription

Just like with human medication, you'll still need a written prescription or have your vet call the pharmacy directly.

CVS is encouraging pet owners to add their pets to their CVS.com profile so you can manage their medications, just like you manage yours.
