Costco is opening dozens of new stores this year

If you're tired of a long trek to get to your nearest Costco, you may be in luck. Costco is expanding and has announced a handful of new stores planned for 2026 in various states across the country.

Your odds of having a nearby location have increased

Costco is on a mission to make itself more accessible to shoppers nationwide by continuing to expand.

According to its "Coming Soon" section on its website, there are several locations to look forward to. These include:

Albany, New York
Otsego, Minnesota
Oconomowoc, Wisconsin
Celina, Texas
Mansfield, Texas
Stone Mountain, Georgia
Camarillo, California
Lee's Summit, Missouri

Each of these locations is slated to open in August 2026. Costco is also expected to continue adding locations to the coming-soon list.

As a general rule, Costco doesn't announce new locations until construction is well underway.

Costco's aggressive growth strategy

These openings aren't particularly shocking and fit in with the company's growth strategy. They tend to aim for around 30 new stores yearly. According to the store's recent earnings discussion, plans are in place to open 26 locations in 2026.

Costco's growth strategy is also stretching outside of the US, with a new store opening in Taiwan this month.

There are currently more than 620 Costco stores in the US and 930 worldwide. There are more than 82 million paid members, showing just how popular the model is.

Buffalo, NY could finally get its first store

According to reports from The Sun, it looks like Buffalo, New York may finally be getting its first Costco. Shoppers who are used to traveling to other cities are going to be hyped if this opening holds true.

The new store is supposedly going to open in Amherst, which is the most heavily populated suburb of Buffalo.

All of this is good news for Costco members, because who doesn't want to save time and gas money when finding their nearest location?
