TSA bans these popular Halloween costumes at airport security
If you're planning to get decked out in your Halloween costume and board a flight, you'll need to know about the latest TSA rules. Yes, the spooky season is here, but TSA bans on specific Halloween costumes and accessories remain in effect.
What is allowed when flying
With such a huge variety of costumes out there, flying on Halloween has become somewhat of a spectacle. You never quite know what you'll see.
In terms of what's allowed, the TSA encourages pajama-styled costumes like animal-themed onesies, and so forth. Just make sure there are no metal pieces or embellishments.
Cosplay, superheroes, traditional witches and so on are also fine. Again, it comes down to packing detachable metal costume pieces in your carry-on until you pass through the security checkpoints.
Some accessories and props won't be allowed
While many of these may be common sense, it's important to know what would be considered banned Halloween costume accessories and props.
The list includes items that look like rocket launches, grenades, bombs and explosives. Not only can you not wear these items, but you also can't put them in your carry-on or checked bags. They need to be left at home.
There are some accessories that are allowed in your checked luggage, which includes props like fake swords, knives, light sabers, pitchforks and a witch's broom.
Go easy on the face makeup
One final tip: if you plan on flying while wearing your Halloween costume, go easy with the face makeup. You're restricted from wearing a full face of Halloween makeup or face masks when going through security checkpoints.
You can certainly pack your face makeup, but remember the typical TSA allowance rules still apply to liquids and powders.
Fun with a few rules
There's no need to feel like your bubble has burst. You can still fly while wearing a costume. It just needs to stay within the TSA rules.
