Subway launches new value menu with 15 items under $5
Cheap fast food has been feeling like a myth lately. But Subway is trying to push back on the “everything is expensive now” feeling in everyone’s hearts. The chain launched a new national value menu on Tuesday, and every single item is under $5. We are talking actual meals not just a sad side item.
And this is not a limited-time thing. The new menu, called the Fresh Value Menu, is a permanent lineup with 15 items priced below $5. In the menu are sandwiches, wrap-style options, and daily rotating deals. And most of them pack 20+ grams of protein.
The $3.99 core menu
At the center of this are four six-inch subs called Deli Faves, all priced at $3.99. Spicy Pepperoni, Ham & Salami, B.L.T., and Cold Cut Combo
Each comes with your usual customization of bread, veggies, and sauces, so it still feels like a “real” Subway order.
There is also a wrap version of this, as Subway is pushing something called Protein Pockets. They're basically wraps instead of bread. Also going for $3.99, the options here include Baja Chicken, Peppercorn Ranch Chicken, Italian Trio, and Turkey Ham.
Meet the daily deal system
There’s a Sub of the Day lineup of Meatball Monday, Tuna Tuesday, Sweet Onion Teriyaki Wednesday, Turkey Thursday, Forest Ham Friday, BMT Saturday, and Spicy Italian Sunday
Any of these goes for $4.99. Add chips and a drink for $2 more, and you’ve basically got a full meal.
Are we getting the old fast food back?
Fast food has been getting expensive and people have been complaining. So, we see chains suddenly competing on value again.
McDonald's already rolled out its McValue platform last year while Taco Bell dropped a value menu under $3 in January. Now, Subway is jumping in but with a full under-$5 lineup instead of limited deals.
If more chains follow this, fast food might finally start feeling like fast food again.
