You know SPAM as that iconic canned meat you slice, fry, and throw into everything. Now, imagine skipping the can entirely and putting it straight in a bun.

That’s the idea behind the new SPAM Dog, and it’s officially happening this summer.

According to Hormel Foods, the SPAM Dog is a hot dog made entirely from the same pork-based recipe people already know from SPAM. So instead of opening a can, slicing it, and frying it, you just grill it like a regular hot dog.

It offers the same salty and savory flavor but different format.

This launch is clearly aimed at summer. Grilling season is when hot dogs dominate, and SPAM is stepping directly into that space with something that feels familiar but slightly unexpected.

It is also part of a trend where food brands remix their most recognizable products into new formats instead of creating something entirely new.

“We’re excited to be rolling out the SPAM Dog and the opportunity it creates for foodservice operators to offer something both familiar and surprising,” said Haley Eggum, brand manager for SPAM, in a press release. “It’s a fresh new take on a hot dog with the unmistakable flavor that SPAM fans know and love.”

This is where things get a little limited

The SPAM Dog isn’t hitting grocery stores (at least not yet). Instead, it is rolling out through stadiums, convenience chains, and select regional food spots. Early locations include ballparks like CHS Field in Minnesota and LMCU Ballpark in Michigan, along with convenience stores like ABC, Rutters, and some 7-Eleven locations.

It is also making its official debut at the National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago.

So for now, this is more of a “you’ll spot it out in the wild” situation than something you can toss in your cart.
