After a slow third quarter, PepsiCo is raising the price of a handful of its snacks and drinks. The company says the price hikes are the only way it can recoup its rising costs for things like aluminum, fuel, and commodities.

Snacking is going to cost you more money

If you're the type who reaches for soda and chips when you get the munchies, it's going to start costing you more money. PepsiCo has announced price increases on items like SunChips, Ruffles, and Doritos—all fan favorites.

In addition, several of PepsiCo's popular soda lines will also see price increases. It's bad news all around for snackers.

Despite getting tariff refunds this year, PepsiCo is still incurring higher costs, and it's cutting into the bottom line.

Price hikes are minimal for now

The one piece of good news is that the price hikes are minimal for now. While the specific amount hasn't been released, PepsiCo says it will be a percentage amount that is in single digits. Still, when everything at the grocery store is going up, the overall hit on your wallet can be substantial.

This comes after PepsiCo raised prices for eight straight quarters during the pandemic. They had just settled into more moderate prices over the past year or so and had started winning customers back. Moving back into a price hike cycle may be the last straw for some.

The beverage industry is taking an especially big hit

While hydration drinks like Gatorade have enjoyed relatively good sales this year, the soda industry has been in a slump. People are being more picky about what they eat and drink, and they want to get some sort of health benefit out of items.

For this and other reasons, PepsiCo has lowered its earnings expectations for 2026.

What this means for your next grocery trip

If you've got a particular type of chip or soda that you always reach for, it may be wise to stock up now before price hikes hit the shelves.
