Over 4 million tubes of toothpaste recalled by FDA
Parents, there's a new recall you need to know about involving products that could lead to temporary or medically reversible health consequences. The FDA has issued a Class II recall of more than four million tubes of popular kids' toothpaste.
Several varieties recalled
This isn't just one type of toothpaste; it's a handful, all marketed specifically for kids. The toothpaste was sold under the Brush Buddies, ARU and Evo brands.
To make it all the more appealing to kids, the packaging features popular licensed characters like My Little Pony, Hot Wheels and Barbie. The flavors range from cookies n' cream to chocolate ice cream.
The FDA has posted the full list of recalled tubes online, providing a product description and lot code details.
Departure from good manufacturing practices
The Class II recall, issued on Oct. 19, cites "deviations from current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) requirements" as the reason. Breaking this down further, it means that the safety, quality and identity of the toothpaste may not meet the requirements.
There are 13 toothpaste varieties from Brush Buddies and four from ARU and Evo listed in the recall. Most of the toothpaste was marketed for kids; however, there are a couple meant for adults.
This is a voluntary recall by Ashtel Studios Inc. All tubes were distributed and sold nationwide. This means you could have easily picked up a tube.
No serious issues have been reported
The good news is that the recall was issued before any serious health issues were reported. The FDA is warning people to stop using the toothpaste immediately and either throw it away or follow its instructions for returning it.
Stay on top of what you've got
Let this be your friendly reminder to stay on top of what you've got in your house and keep up to date with FDA recalls. Although this recall is not likely to lead to serious adverse health issues, it's best to get rid of it immediately and not take a chance.
