So you're trying to make better choices when it comes to your diet and live a cleaner, healthier lifestyle. Thanks to a new study, you may need to rethink how you view full-fat dairy, because it may not be the big no-no you thought.

The saturated fat content in dairy may not be as significant

For years, decades even, people have all been of the belief that the higher the fat content in dairy, the worse it is for your health. Whether you're trying to lose weight, build muscle, or just tone up, full-fat dairy has been seen as a no-no.

A study led by Professor Harvey Anderson at the University of Toronto took a look at how full-fat dairy affects the body. The results weren't what people were expecting.

After eating three servings of full-fat dairy daily for 12 weeks, adults showed no meaningful increase in body fat, weight, insulin resistance, or cholesterol. And that wasn't all.

There were additional health benefits from full-fat dairy

The study also showed that full-fat dairy improved participants' blood pressure, and they consumed more vitamin D, protein, and calcium. A true win-win.

Contrary to what many may think, the study showed there were no negative effects on blood lipid levels or energy metabolism.

Current dietary recommendations in many countries are for people to choose fat-free or low-fat dairy products to reduce their saturated fat intake. It may be time for the recommendations to evolve.

Not the only study to confirm these findings

If this were a one-off study, people might not give it a second thought, but this is just the latest study to show there is no link between eating full-fat dairy and negative health outcomes.

Some studies have even shown health benefits in consuming full-fat dairy.

It may be time to update your dairy options

The next time you're in the grocery store picking up milk, yogurt, and other dairy products, you may want to give full-fat a try.
