Millions of drivers to receive cash payout from State Farm
State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company is basically opening its wallet. The insurance giant is sending out a record $5 billion dividend to eligible auto policyholders, covering more than 49 million vehicles. The average payout is expected to be around $100 per vehicle, although the actual amount depends on where you live and how much you paid for your qualifying policy.
You don't have to be a current State Farm customer to get the money. Here is everything you need to know to see if you qualify.
How much could you get?
Not everyone will receive the same $100 check. State Farm says each qualifying vehicle will receive between 4% and 10% of the premium paid during 2025. The amount varies by state because insurance premiums vary by location.
You could also receive more than one payment if you had multiple qualifying vehicles. So if you insured three cars, for example, your payout could be calculated separately for each one.
When will the money arrive?
State Farm is sending the dividends out in batches based on location, so this is not a situation where everyone needs to start checking their mailbox tomorrow morning. Eligible policyholders are being notified as payments are processed.
If State Farm has your email address, you will receive an email with instructions for accessing an online payment portal. You will be able to choose an electronic payment or request a check. If you don't have a current email address on file, State Farm says your payment will automatically be mailed to you.
The company expects the distribution to take several months. Also note that the money will be issued as an actual payment. It will not simply appear as a credit on your insurance account.
What if you no longer have State Farm?
You can still qualify. Eligibility is based on having a qualifying State Farm auto policy during 2025, not whether you're still insured with the company today. So if you switched insurers in 2026, don't automatically assume you've missed out.
If you had a qualifying policy in 2025, your old State Farm account may still have some money attached to it.
Don't expect a check for your house or life insurance
The $5 billion dividend is specifically for qualifying vehicle policies. State Farm says its homeowners, renters and life insurance policyholders aren't included in this distribution because the company manages each line of business separately.
So if you have State Farm homeowners insurance but never insured a car with the company, this particular payday is not yours.
How to check your State Farm dividend
State Farm says customers can call 888-808-9532 or visit SFDividend.com for information about the dividend, including state-specific delivery dates. The simplest thing to remember is that if you had qualifying State Farm auto insurance in 2025, don't assume switching insurers means you've missed out.
That old policy could still have one last surprise for you and, for once, it's a surprise that comes with money attached.
