Kia and Genesis recall 235,000 vehicles over fire risk
There has been a massive recall of the Kia Carnival and the Genesis G80, G90, GV70, and GV80. All these models have an increased risk of fire thanks to a fuel leak in a connection.
A loose connection is to blame
The culprit for the recall is a loose connection. While not every one of the 235,000 vehicles will have this defect, it isn't something that should be ignored.
The fuel pipe and fuel rail have a connection point, and it's that connection that could be loose. That means fuel could be escaping, which is a serious fire risk.
The list of specific vehicles
Looking at the specifics of the recall, there are 141,032 Kia Carnival minivans from 2022 to 2026. There are 94,760 Genesis GV70, GV80, G80, and G90 models from 2021 to 2026.
There's no need to guess if your vehicle is included on the list because the automaker will be contacting all owners. You'll also get instructions about where to go for the recall inspection and fix.
Letters will go out to affected owners by June 8.
Both of these companies filed documents with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration separately, but it seems they both have the same issue. Documents were filed on April 10.
The fix is straightforward
The good news is that if you happen to own one of these vehicles being recalled, the fix is straightforward. Your vehicle will be inspected, and the fasteners on the crossover fuel pipes will be tightened.
In some cases, replacement parts may be needed.
As you may know, there is no cost to you, the owner.
Make sure you take the recall seriously
The key takeaway is that you will be contacted if your car is affected, and you absolutely want to take the recall seriously. There's no cost to you, and it could protect not just your vehicle, but you.
