FDA announces recall of frozen pizza sold in 21 states
Frozen pizza snacks are supposed to be one of the safest bets in your freezer. Place them in the oven, wait a few minutes, and you're done. But if you've got a box of Farm Rich Pizza Cheese Crunchers sitting in your freezer, you may want to take a closer look before tossing them in the oven.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced a recall affecting more than 160,000 pounds of the popular snack after concerns that some packages could contain metal pieces. The recall was initiated on May 19, but the FDA officially classified it as a Class II recall on June 9. That classification means exposure to the product could potentially cause temporary or medically reversible health issues, though the risk of serious long-term injury is considered lower than in the FDA's most severe recall category.
According to the FDA, the company voluntarily recalled 6,408 cases, totaling roughly 160,200 pounds of product. The recall applies to Farm Rich Pizza Cheese Crunchers with Lot Number 003029976, UPC 041322652256, and Best By Date of July 30, 2027.
While no injuries were mentioned in the recall announcement, metal contamination is the kind of issue that can turn a quick snack into an unexpected trip to the dentist or worse.
The recall spans 21 states
The products were distributed across a large portion of the country, including Alabama, California, Arkansas, Georgia, Iowa, Florida, Kansas, Indiana, Maryland, Kentucky, New Jersey, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas, New York, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
The snacks are commonly sold through retailers such as Walmart, Lidl, and Dollar General, although the recall notice did not specify which stores received the affected shipments.
Next steps
The FDA notice does not include special instructions beyond the recall itself, but standard guidance is pretty much straightforward. Do not eat the product, throw it away or return it to the store where you bought it, and check the lot number and best-by date before preparing any remaining boxes.
