Dollar General turns 7,000 locations into grocery stores for fresh fruits
Brace yourself because Dollar General is going through a major renovation, and it will affect the way you shop. In a massive bid to capture budget-conscious shoppers, Dollar General has quietly crossed a major retail milestone: more than 7,000 of its discount locations nationwide have been successfully upgraded to include fresh fruits and veggies.
Dollar General will offer more variety
With prices on the rise and inflation showing no signs of cooling, pretty much everyone is on the hunt for a deal nowadays. Dollar General has recognized the trend and is working to provide customers with a discount option for groceries.
The new look will give the retailer a place to sell fresh fruit and vegetables. You'll be able to shop for onions, tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries, bananas, apples, lemons, potatoes, salad mixes, and more.
In total, you'll find the top 20 produce items that are usually found in traditional grocery stores. So you won't be able to do a full grocery shop, but you'll still find a lot of produce.
It's about meeting customers where they are
This change is all about meeting customers where they are. One of the latest stores to go through the transformation is in Wrightsville, PA, which now sells a selection of fresh produce.
"Although we are not a grocery store, we believe the addition of produce in our Wrightsville store highlights our commitment to deliver a pleasant shopping experience that includes affordable prices on quality products in a convenient location," said Matthew Simonsen, Dollar General's senior vice president of real estate and store development.
New stores will also open
Dollar General is doing more than a makeover; it's also planning to open 450 new locations by the end of the fiscal year.
When you combine more locations with more variety, customers looking for a deal are clearly the winners in this equation.
