These days, it's rare you read about prices dropping, but that's exactly what's happening at Costco. Without fanfare, the massive wholesaler has slashed prices on several popular Kirkland products.

Drops of up to $10 are hitting Costco shelves

Not only is Costco dropping prices on several private-label products, but the drops are significant. Prices are up to $10 less, which adds up when you're picking up multiple items.

It looks like many of the new prices are on products customers had complained about online, stating they were too expensive. Could this be a case of a retailer listening to customer feedback?

A great example is the fan-favorite Kirkland Chocolate-Covered Almonds. Customers in both the U.S. and Canada have seen the price steadily increase over the past few years, and they have been vocal about it online.

A variety of products are affected

There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason in terms of which products are getting price cuts.

Just one year ago, Costco lowered the price on its private-label laundry packs, standard foil, Spanish olive oil, macadamia nuts, boneless chicken tenders, and more.

As for this round of cuts, it includes items like the Kirkland Signature King Size Sheets ($89.99 to $79.99), Kirkland Signature Crispy Wings (now $14.99), Kirkland Signature Milk Chocolate Almonds (now $18.99), and Kirkland Signature Golf Balls (now $29.99).

The goal is to be the first to lower prices

In its most recent earnings call, Costco CEO Ron Vachris said it's the company's goal to be the first to lower prices and the last to raise them.

Costco CFO Gary Millerchip added that Costco had "invested in lower prices for our members on several everyday items."

A good-news story for consumers

This is a much-appreciated good news story for consumers who are looking for ways to save money right now. It may prompt you to check out your local Costco and tally up your savings.
