There is a tiny warning light on your dashboard that you probably hope never appears, but if your tires are losing pressure, you definitely want it to. Chrysler is recalling 201,976 Jeep SUVs in the U.S. because a software error could prevent the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) from detecting low tire pressure or illuminating the warning light when it should.

According to the NHTSA, the problem means the affected vehicles don't comply with federal tire-pressure monitoring requirements and could increase the risk of a crash.

Which Jeep SUVs are affected?

The recall covers certain model-year vehicles across Jeep's Wagoneer, Grand Cherokee, and Cherokee lineups:

  • 2024–2025 Jeep Wagoneer
  • 2025 Jeep Wagoneer L
  • 2024–2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer
  • 2025–2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer L
  • 2026 Jeep Grand Wagoneer L PHEV
  • 2024–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • 2024–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee L
  • 2024–2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe
  • 2026 Jeep Cherokee

Not every vehicle within those model years is necessarily affected, so owners should check their specific VIN rather than assuming their Jeep is part of the recall.

Why does a tire-pressure warning matter?

Low tire pressure is not just an annoying dashboard notification. It can affect how a vehicle handles and can increase the risk of a crash.

That is why federal safety standards require vehicles to have a tire pressure monitoring system capable of warning drivers when tire pressure drops below the required threshold. NHTSA says the recalled Jeeps can fail to meet that standard because the system may not detect the problem or activate the warning light.

There is a free fix

The good news is that there is a solution. Chrysler dealers will update the radio frequency hub software for free to address the problem. Owner notification letters are scheduled to start going out September 29, 2026. Owners can also contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403.

If you own one of the affected Jeeps, you can check whether your specific vehicle is included using its VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup. NHTSA says recall information can be searched by VIN, license plate, or vehicle year, make, and model.
