If you live in California and have been missing shopping at Bed Bath & Beyond, you'll be very excited to hear this news. Two years after closing its last store in the state, the popular retailer is returning to California.

A dozen stores will open

It's not just one store that will open, but 12 of them. Six of those will be located in the heavily populated Bay Area, giving shoppers plenty of options.

Before the stores began closing, the retailer had 80 locations at its peak.

The news was part of a bigger press release that also spoke about the changes The Container Store is going through.

Beyond Inc. (the parent company of Bed Bath & Beyond and Overstock) made a $40 million strategic investment in The Container Store, and now their physical locations are going through an overhaul. Eventually, The Container Store will sell items from Bed Bath & Beyond as well.

The news comes as a surprise to Californians

Bed Bath & Beyond reopening in California comes as a surprise to many as Bed Bath & Beyond Executive Chairman Marcus Lemonis once described California as "over-regulated, expensive, and creates a risky business environment." Lemonis made the observation alongside a handful of other business leaders saying much the same last year.

All new store concept and name

The new stores will have new branding, and will be called "The Container Store + Bed Bath & Beyond," giving each store a chance to merge products in one location.

"This is a reset with purpose," said Jen Pape, senior vice president of the Container Store. "We are actively reshaping our stores to make room for what's next."

You can start making your shopping list now

The newly reimagined and freshly stocked locations will start opening in May. This means you can start building your shopping list now.
