Bed Bath & Beyond is back and wants your old expired coupons
That stack of ancient coupons sitting in your junk drawer might finally pay off. After disappearing from malls and shopping centers during its 2023 bankruptcy, Bed Bath & Beyond is staging a comeback, and the retailer wants customers to dig through closets, cookbooks, wallets, and couch cushions in search of its legendary blue coupons. The prize is a $100,000 home transformation.
The hunt for America's oldest Bed Bath & Beyond coupon
As part of its return, Bed Bath & Beyond has launched the Legendary Coupon Hunt, a nationwide contest running from June 22 through July 13. The challenge is to find your oldest Bed Bath & Beyond coupon and bring it into a participating store.
The person who submits the oldest surviving coupon will win a home makeover worth $100,000. And yes, expired coupons count. In fact, that is the whole point. The company is now betting that some customers still have those iconic blue relics tucked away somewhere.
Your old coupons still work
Even if your coupon expired years ago, faded beyond recognition, or looks like it has survived multiple moves and washing machine cycles, the company says it will still honor it during the contest period at participating locations. Coupons from affiliated brands, including The Container Store and Kirkland's, can also be entered.
The retailer is also giving away additional prizes, including 100 winners receiving $500 gift cards and 50 winners receiving $100 gift cards. So even if you don't uncover a coupon from the early 1990s, there is still a chance to win something.
Bed Bath & Beyond is opening stores again
The coupon hunt arrives as Bed Bath & Beyond begins reopening physical retail locations through a partnership with The Container Store. The companies are rolling out a new combined retail concept that places Bed Bath & Beyond products alongside storage, organization, and home services under one roof.
The first phase includes 22 locations across the United States, including stores in Charlotte, Austin, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Portland, Miami, Bellevue, and New York City. Additional stores are expected to convert over the coming weeks.
The comeback is coming after Bed Bath & Beyond filed for bankruptcy in 2023 and closed more than 230 stores nationwide, seemingly ending one of retail's most recognizable brands. But the story is not ending there.
Overstock.com acquired the company's intellectual property, keeping the brand alive online through BedBathandBeyond.com and launching updated digital shopping and loyalty programs.
Now, the retailer is taking another step toward rebuilding its physical presence.
