Amazon Prime users have weeks left to claim up to $51 refund

Millions of Amazon customers could still have money waiting for them, but the clock is ticking. Eligible Prime members have until July 27 to file a claim in a massive $2.5 billion settlement tied to allegations that Amazon made it too easy to sign up for Prime and too difficult to cancel.

Why Amazon is paying customers

The payments stem from a $2.5 billion settlement between Amazon and the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC sued Amazon in 2023, alleging that the company used manipulative design practices to push consumers into enrolling in Prime subscriptions and then made canceling those memberships unnecessarily complicated.

Amazon agreed to settle the case in September 2025 but denied any wrongdoing. The company said it has always followed the law and maintains that it makes Prime cancellations clear and straightforward.

Who qualifies to get paid?

Not every Prime member is eligible to be a part of the settlement. According to court filings, customers must be signed up for Prime between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025. They must also have unsuccessfully tried to cancel Prime, or signed up through what court documents describe as a "challenged enrollment flow." These enrollment flows include certain pages on Amazon, such as the Universal Prime Decision Page, the Shipping Option Select Page, the Prime Video enrollment flow, and the Single Page Checkout.

There is one additional requirement for this claims phase: customers generally must have used Prime benefits 10 times or fewer during any 12-month enrollment period.

How much is in play

Eligible customers can receive up to $51. Not everyone will receive the maximum payout. The exact amount depends on how much the customer paid in Prime membership fees during their subscription period.

As far as filing a claim goes, customers who qualify should receive a notice by email or regular mail. Those who receive a notice can submit a claim through the settlement website's online portal. Claims may also be submitted by email using a completed claim form, although administrators say the online portal is the fastest option. Once submitted, Amazon has up to 30 days to review the claim.

It is important to keep in mind that the filing deadline is July 27. Approved claims are expected to be paid by September, according to the settlement website. If you meet the criteria, head over to the portal and file your claim before the July 27 deadline ticks away.
