Running out of milk, toothpaste, or something random before a flight might not require a store trip anymore. Amazon just launched a new service called Amazon Now, promising delivery in 30 minutes or less for everyday essentials.

With the service already rolling out across major U.S. cities, here is everything you need to know.

Where Amazon Now is available and what can be ordered

The service is already widely live in Atlanta, Dallas–Fort Worth, Philadelphia, and Seattle. It is expanding quickly into cities like Austin, Phoenix, Houston, Denver, Minneapolis, and Orlando.

According to Amazon, it plans to reach tens of millions of customers by the end of the year.

As for what you can actually order, Amazon Now isn’t trying to replace full grocery runs. It is built for “I need this right now” moments.

That includes groceries (milk, eggs, produce, bakery items), household essentials (detergent, toothpaste), personal care and baby products, pet supplies, electronics (yes, even things like AirPods), alcohol (where allowed).

In many areas, the service runs 24/7.

How the 30-minute delivery works

This isn’t coming from traditional warehouses, as Amazon is using a network of smaller fulfillment hubs placed close to where people live. That means shorter travel distances, faster packing times, and quicker drop-offs.

It’s basically Amazon compressing the entire delivery pipeline into your neighborhood.

The pricing depends on whether you are a Prime member. Prime members are charged $3.99 per delivery while non-Prime members are charged $13.99 per delivery.

There’s also a small-order fee if your total is under $15.

This fits into Amazon’s speed push in delivery

Amazon Now is just one part of a much larger speed strategy. The company now offers 30-minute delivery (Amazon Now), under 60-minute delivery via drones, 1-hour and 3-hour delivery windows, as well as same-day delivery across thousands of locations.

In 2025 alone, Amazon delivered billions of items on the same or next day, with groceries and everyday essentials making up a huge portion. The company is shrinking the gap between needing something and having it at one’s doorstep.

And once that gap gets small enough, going to the store will start to feel optional.
