Aldi is giving away free mystery grocery boxes this week
Between rising grocery prices and the internet's obsession with surprise boxes, Aldi has found a way to combine both. Starting this week, the discount grocer is giving away free mystery grocery boxes filled with themed products, and shoppers won't know exactly what's inside until they open them.
How the giveaway works
Aldi is releasing a limited-edition blind box every day from June 22 through June 25 at noon ET. The boxes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. To try your luck, shoppers need to visit Aldi's blind box website at noon, select that day's box, and enter delivery information.
Each day will feature a different theme. Snacks, fiber, protein, mystery, and more. Aldi says it will reveal the theme ahead of time on its Instagram account, so shoppers can decide whether that day's box is worth chasing.
Why grocery stores are suddenly doing blind boxes
If this feels more like a collectible drop than a grocery promotion, that's because it basically is. Blind boxes and surprise unboxings have exploded online over the last few years thanks to collectibles like Labubu, Pokémon cards, and sports memorabilia.
Entire social media communities now revolve around opening mystery products on camera. Aldi appears to be borrowing that same excitement and applying it to groceries. Because apparently "What's for dinner?" wasn't suspenseful enough.
Aldi is getting bigger
The giveaway comes as Aldi continues a major U.S. expansion. Earlier this year, the retailer announced plans to open more than 180 new stores by the end of 2026. The company says the expansion will span 31 states, although specific locations haven't been announced yet.
According to Aldi U.S. CEO Atty McGrath, the company is focused on making it easier for shoppers to put Aldi first by expanding into more neighborhoods, upgrading its website, and adding distribution infrastructure.
Don't worry if you miss out
The giveaway is limited, so not everyone will score a free box. The good news is that Aldi says every item featured in the boxes will also be available for purchase in stores nationwide year-round.
So even if the mystery boxes disappear in seconds, you won't completely miss out on the products inside.
