Target is spending billions to fix its messy stores
If you dread shopping at Target because it feels like you're dodging mess in every aisle and disorganization, you aren't alone. The feeling has become so common among shoppers that the large retailer is now promising to clean up its act.
Target will inject an eye-watering $2 billion this year alone to spruce up its often tired locations. Its efforts have a lofty goal in mind. And that is to reclaim its spot as the authority on style.
Target looks to turn around declining sales
While Target isn't the only retailer seeing a decline in sales, the company is clearly unhappy with the downward trend.
The makeover efforts were announced in an annual investor meeting as a way to stem the bleeding. It's meant to offer hope for investors who are starting to get cold feet.
Customers have been picking other stores and shunning Target when it comes to home and fashion items.
There is optimism around the plan
It looks like the plan is a hit with investors, who were looking for some sort of direction from the retailer.
“This is a new chapter, and it’s all about growth,” said Target CEO Michael Fiddelke. “We’ll do so by playing our own game and making big changes to delight our guests.”
It doesn't stop with the makeovers
Target has even bigger plans in the works, too. It also plans to remodel 130 existing stores and open 30 new stores. That's huge, and it means that one of these is likely located near you.
Target’s new CEO, Fiddelke, isn't wasting any time. By injecting $2 billion into store "vibes" and organization, he’s betting that a cleaner, more stylish shopping experience will win back the customers who’ve been drifting toward competitors.
It's time to check Target out again
If you've been holding back on shopping in Target because it's not the experience you enjoy, it may be time to give it another try. With all these changes, it's bound to feel completely different.
