Popular taco chain Gringos Locos abruptly closes all Central Florida locations
Taco lovers are not going to be happy about this news because their list of options just got smaller. Seemingly out of nowhere, Gringos Locos has closed all its Central Florida locations and is also staying quiet about the reasons.
Customers sad to learn about the closures
Not only did the closures come as a surprise, but most customers didn't even realize it had happened.
Its Orlando location has been around for more than a decade, not to mention other locations like SoDo, the Milk District, and the University of Central Florida main campus.
“I come like every other week,” customer Zoe Wheatcroft told News 6. “I come by myself. I come with coworkers. It’s a great spot. Tacos, burritos, whatever. It sucks. I really love their tacos.”
Management may not have had much warning
According to an employee at a restaurant a couple of doors away from the downtown Gringos Locos, the closure may have caught management by surprise too.
She told News 6 that she saw managers leave the restaurant crying on Sunday night. On the following Monday, the restaurant never opened; the menu screens and lights were off.
Adding to the confusion and questions is the fact that the website remained live and even listed employment openings at locations that had seemingly closed.
Still waiting on answers
As of right now, there are lots of questions and not many answers. Customers who loved the famous "Double D" tacos are left in the dark and wondering if this is it for the chain.
So far, it's just a lot of rumors circulating online from past employees. There has been no official statement from Gringos Locos.
A backup plan is always wise
If Gringos Locos was a restaurant you hit up often, this just shows why a backup plan is wise. It may be time to start searching for a new taco place.
