Pizza Hut beats Domino's as America's No. 1 pizza chain, 44,000 diners say
There's a new top pizza chain in town according to diners, and the winner may surprise you. Despite Domino's having a lot of success, it has been beaten out by Pizza Hut.
Call it a resurgence
Pizza Hut seems to be having a resurgence with its announcement of going back to its retro and classic look, and now being ranked as the best pizza chain by 44,000 diners.
Pizza Hut was voted number one by 19.1% of diners, with Domino's following a close second with 17.1% of the votes.
Neck and Neck Competition
Peeling back the stats in the survey, Pizza Hut and Domino's were neck and neck in so many aspects. Even the final tally was fairly close.
Pizza Hut has been around a bit longer, opening in 1958 while Domino's was 1960. They have about the same amount of locations nationwide, and both have a large selection of pizzas and toppings.
Domino's edged out Pizza Hut when it came to word of mouth and advertising buzz, but Pizza Hut got the ultimate prize of best tasting pizza.
Local pizza brands still got shout outs
While Pizza Hut took the top spot, local pizza brands were still shown love. More than one fifth of diners ranked them their number one choice.
Other national brands that made the list for 2026 include Papa John's, Little Caesars, and Marco's Pizza. Also interesting was that diners bought more frozen pizzas this year.
This is part of a larger nationwide trend that restaurants are experiencing. With prices going up, and people being more mindful of their budget, restaurants are feeling the squeeze.
You can settle the argument
If it's been a while since you had either of these pizza brands, now is the time to check them out for yourself. You can solve the argument over which one truly tastes better, or maybe there is no clear winner.
