Paying for another streaming service before knowing whether you'll actually like it is getting a little old. The Roku Channel has a new solution: watch the first few episodes of select Paramount+ shows for free before deciding if they're worth paying for.

One of the biggest names in the lineup is "Lioness," Taylor Sheridan's action-heavy thriller about elite operatives and covert missions. The Roku Channel is letting viewers watch the first three episodes of select Paramount+ series for free. That gives you enough time to figure out whether the show's characters, pacing, and general chaos are your thing before handing over subscription money.

And "Lioness" is a particularly good fit for this setup. It's the kind of show that can look like another generic action thriller until you actually get into the characters and the complicated missions. If three episodes leave you wanting more, that's when Paramount+ enters the chat.

Getting hooked is the point

The free episodes aren't exactly charity. The Roku Channel is giving viewers a taste of premium Paramount+ programming, with a very convenient button waiting for anyone who wants to keep watching.

If you finish the free episodes and decide you are invested, you can subscribe to Paramount+ directly through The Roku Channel. You don't have to jump between apps, create another account, or go hunting for the show somewhere else. Roku wants to be more than the place for free movies

This also fits neatly into what The Roku Channel has been building for years. The service launched in 2017 as Roku's free, ad-supported streaming destination, giving people access to movies and television without another monthly subscription. Since then, it has expanded into a much larger entertainment hub with free movies, shows, live channels, and original programming.

Now, it is increasingly becoming the place where you can discover something free and then pay for something premium without leaving the same interface.
