McDonald’s is serving onion rings in the US for a limited time
McDonald’s is bringing some of its most interesting international menu items to the U.S., including Australian onion rings. However, for now, customers can only get them at one McDonald’s location.
A global fast-food cheat code
The location in question is the McDonald’s headquarters restaurant at 1035 W. Randolph St. in Chicago, which is open to the public but gets access to menu items customers won’t find at the average McDonald’s.
Right now, that means the restaurant is running a Global Favorites menu featuring popular items from McDonald’s locations around the world. And yes, the Australian onion rings are part of it. But they are not traveling alone. The limited-time menu also includes the Bacon Hot Honey McCrispy from Canada, the Salted Caramel Oreo McFlurry from South Korea and other international favorites.
There’s even a South Korean Salted Caramel Dipped Cone and Chilean Dulce de Leche McPops for anyone who considers a normal McDonald’s run insufficiently adventurous.
Customers are really digging those onion rings
The Australian onion rings appear to be getting the most attention online, with fans already asking McDonald’s to stop teasing them and just put them on menus everywhere. Instagram food creator @snackolator shared a review of the onion rings, prompting some very enthusiastic reactions.
One commenter declared, “FINALLY MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!” Another simply wanted McDonald’s to “go nationwide” with them. And one reviewer who had already tried them said they liked them enough to order double.
With that kind of feedback, it might be worth checking out the new menu if you are near the McDonald’s headquarters restaurant in Chicago. It's reportedly expected to stick around through mid-November. And if you're not booking a flight to the Windy City soon, the McDonald’s close to you still has those familiar fall favorites waiting for you.
