Starting November 5, Pokémon cards are reportedly being brought back to McDonald’s Happy Meals in the U.S. Now, collectors have a fresh excuse to order a box of nuggets they may or may not actually want. The limited-time promotion is expected to run through December 9, with 15 cards to collect.

Each Pokémon booster pack will contain four cards, including three standard cards and one guaranteed holofoil card. Six of the 15 cards will reportedly feature a confetti holofoil treatment.

The full card lineup has not been revealed yet, so collectors will have to wait a little longer to find out which Pokémon made the cut.

The Pokémon card hunt starts November 5

The promotion is expected to run for roughly five weeks, but don't assume you will have plenty of time to casually collect all 15. Pokémon card launches have a habit of turning perfectly normal stores into miniature trading-card conventions. If demand is anything like recent Pokémon events, the first few days could get particularly hectic.

And if you are trying to complete the entire set, buying Happy Meals one at a time could get expensive.

You might not need the whole Happy Meal

One potentially useful trick is to ask your local McDonald's whether the Pokémon card packs can be purchased separately. Some locations have allowed customers to buy the promotional toy or card pack without ordering the entire meal, reportedly for around $1.99 to $2.99.

Policies and availability can vary by restaurant, though, so don't show up expecting every McDonald's to have the same setup.

Don't feed the scalpers

If the cards sell out quickly, the resale market will almost certainly become part of the story. Individual cards and complete 15-card sets may appear online almost immediately, but early prices can be inflated by launch-day hype. If you are not in a hurry, waiting could save you some money once the initial frenzy dies down.

For serious Pokémon collectors, there are also plenty of other official Pokémon TCG products to chase if McDonald's stock disappears. For now, though, the countdown is on.
