Major pizza recall hits Walmart and Aldi nationwide
Before you do a deep dive in your freezer searching for a frozen pizza, you're going to want to be sure it's not on this list. Multiple frozen pizzas have been recalled by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), including two that were sold at Walmart.
A risk of Salmonella
You don't want to take a chance with food that has been recalled, especially when the reason is possible Salmonella contamination. In severe cases, Salmonella has been linked to hospitalization and even death.
FSIS has said there was a potential Salmonella outbreak involving poultry and meat products with a specific dry milk powder. That powder has also been recalled.
"We have issued a sales restriction and removed this product from our impacted stores," said a spokesperson with Walmart. "We are working with the supplier to investigate."
The specific pizzas recalled
Two frozen pizzas sold at Walmart are on the list of recalled items. These are the Great Value Thin Crust Chicken Bacon Ranch and the Great Value Stuffed Crust Chicken Bacon Ranch.
It isn't just frozen pizza at Walmart either; Aldi also had some on the list. The Aldi pizzas that have been recalled are the Biscuit Crust Sausage & Cheese Breakfast Pizza and the Cooked Bacon Topping, Pepper & Onion Breakfast Pizza.
There's a good chance this recall won't stop with frozen pizzas either. The FSIS expects more products will be recalled as it traces what the contaminated product was used in.
Common symptoms of Salmonella
Ideally, you sh out the pizza before eating it, but just in case, there are some symptoms to watch for.
Common symptoms of Salmonella can include: headache, stomach cramps, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and watery diarrhea.
Not the pizza you want to snack on
Pizza can really hit the spot, and a frozen pizza is a special kind of convenient. But if you've got one of these recalled pizzas in your freezer, it's not worth taking a chance. It's best to get rid of it immediately.
