Labubu dolls are getting their own feature film
If you've got kids who are absolutely obsessed with all things Labubu dolls, they are going to freak out when they hear the latest news. Sony Pictures and Pop Mart (Chinese toy company) have announced that Labubu dolls are getting a feature film.
Labubu dolls have taken the world by storm
Parents know better than anyone just how big the Labubu doll craze is. From collecting the dolls to the accessories, it's become a beast of a trend.
It didn't take long for Sony Pictures to not only notice the trend but also get in on the action. The movie-making giant is currently working with Pop Mart to create a computer-generated animation feature-length film.
Both companies have said the project is still in early development, but there's movement, and that's enough to get kids excited.
The appeal continues to expand
When the Labubu dolls first came onto the market, many giggled and brushed them off as a silly toy. Considering they have now made more than $40bn in sales worldwide, no one is brushing them off now.
The film is bringing in big star power
Sony Pictures is taking this film very seriously by calling in the big guns. It will be directed by Paul King, who is known for Paddington and Wonka.
Writing the script will be King and Steven Levenson. The executive producer role will be helmed by Kasing Lung, the Hong Kong artist who created the Labubu dolls and their Nordic mythology.
The movie announcement was made in Paris as part of the 10-year anniversary of Labubu.
Expect the movie to make a huge splash
Considering the big names behind the movie and the massive worldwide appeal of Labubu dolls, you can bet this is going to be a successful opening. If you've got kids, you can pretty much guarantee they'll be asking to go see it.
