For those who crave a big cup of ice cold Coke but want a kosher option, you're in luck. Coca-Cola is stocking shelves with the yellow-capped version that is kosher and approved for Passover.

Go ahead and pour a glass of Coca-Cola for Passover

You can thank Rabbi Tobias Geffen of Atlanta for making kosher Coca-Cola possible for Passover. This builds on the tradition of Coca-Cola releasing bottles with yellow caps every spring.

The buzz on social media is that the yellow cap means it's the Mexican Coke version. This version uses cane sugar rather than the standard high-fructose corn syrup.

In reality, it's all about being kosher.

Cane sugar fits with kosher practices

During Passover, Jewish people must refrain from eating certain items. These include things like shellfish and pork. Beef can be consumed if it's kosher.

Many Jews also nix grain products and corn syrup during Passover. The Mexican recipe just so happens to fit the bill and work perfectly for the season.

According to The Atlanta Jewish Times, Rabbi Tobias Geffen gave the cane sugar formulation approval for consumption during Passover.

The recipe was approved many decades ago

The approval process actually started back in 1935 when Geffen first looked into the recipe with the company's approval.

After some back-and-forth and years of research by scientists, the recipe was changed. Geffen gave his seal of approval.

Go ahead and add the yellow-capped bottle to your table

If you're Jewish and gearing up to celebrate Passover, you can go ahead and add the yellow-capped version of Coca-Cola to your table.
