Gas-X Softgels recalled nationwide after machine coolant leaks inside
Some bottles of Gas-X are being recalled because they may contain traces of machine coolant. The recall affects specific lots of Gas-X Extra Strength Softgels distributed nationwide after the manufacturer discovered a packaging machine leak that may have contaminated capsules during production.
Gas-X manufacturer Haleon issued a voluntary recall after identifying a leak in packaging equipment. According to the company, a diluted propylene glycol-based coolant may have come into contact with certain capsules during the packaging process. Customers never reported problems. Instead, the company found it internally and launched the recall as a precaution.
Which products are affected?
The recall covers Gas-X Extra Strength Softgels (125 mg) sold in 120-count bottles and 72-count bottles distributed around April 13. All impacted products have an expiration date of November 30, 2028.
Affected lot numbers include TL8K, YH9X, YH9Y, and X78N.
What could happen if someone takes them?
The company says potential symptoms could include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. So far, Haleon says it has not received any reports of adverse events connected to the recalled products.
Still, the company is advising consumers to stop using affected lots immediately. Anyone who experiences symptoms after taking the product should contact a healthcare provider.
Nevertheless, Haleon says it has identified and repaired the source of the leak. The company also says corrective measures have been put in place to prevent the problem from happening again.
In the meantime, customers with affected products are being asked to stop taking them and contact the company for returns and reimbursement. So, if you have a bottle sitting in your medicine cabinet, it's worth checking the lot number before taking another capsule. Because the last thing a medicine meant to settle your stomach should contain is machine coolant.
