Frozen berries recalled across multiple states for E. coli

Frozen berries are just the latest item on the recall list in what seems like one hit after another to the country's food industry. The FDA has recalled frozen berries in eight states that may be contaminated and have already sickened some people.

What's being recalled

All lots of GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries, sold at Publix, have been recalled. These berries led to 12 confirmed cases of E. coli infections.

The berries were only sold in Publix stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Check the packaging UPC

The easiest way to check if you've got a bag of the recalled frozen berries at home is to check the packaging and UPC. The berries were sold in both 10 and 48 ounce bags.

The specific lots being recalled are:

GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries, 10-ounce, UPC 41415-06453
GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries, 48-ounce, UPC 41415-12053
GreenWise Organic Whole Mixed Berries, 10-ounce, UPC 41415-06753
GreenWise Organic Whole Mixed Berries, 48-ounce, UPC 41415-12153

Customers are being asked to return their frozen berries to Publix to get a full refund.

What to do if you have these in your freezer

If you do have a bag of the recalled berries in your freezer, you're being warned not to consume them. If you already did eat some of them, the FDA is telling people to monitor themselves for a potential E. coli infection.

E. coli infections are most severe for older people, young children, and people with a weakened immune system.

Never worth taking a chance on contaminated berries

Even if you've got the berries at home, and have eaten some and been okay, it's still not worth the risk. It's best to return them and get your money back.
