Costco just dropped a new food court item, but members are torn
Costco has added a new contender to its famously inexpensive menu, and members are once again reviewing every bite like guest judges on a cooking competition. After popping up in test locations earlier this year, Costco's new chicken strips are now showing up at warehouses across the U.S.
The meal includes five large breaded chicken breast strips, one mystery dipping sauce, and a $6.99 price tag. The meal also packs a whopping 1,640 calories.
The sauce is the fan favorite
Oddly enough, the chicken isn't stealing the spotlight. The orange-colored dipping sauce has become the real main character. When Costco food creator Lucas Gomes, better known online as @therealkirklandking, reviewed the meal, he joked that Chick-fil-A should be nervous if Costco ever added a drive-through.
But despite its appearance, he said the sauce doesn't actually taste like Chick-fil-A sauce. Instead, reviewers describe it as something closer to a tangy, zesty honey mustard.
Members are split down the middle
As with basically every Costco food court change, the reviews are spirited. Fans say the chicken strips are huge, crispy, filling, and worth the price. Critics, on the other hand, argue they are too salty, too dry, and overly breaded.
Depending on which Costco Facebook group, Reddit thread, TikTok, or Instagram Reel you stumble across, they are either the next food court classic or something you'll only order once.
You'll probably have to try them yourself
If you are already making a warehouse run for a 40-pack of bottled water and enough paper towels to survive the apocalypse, grabbing an order of chicken strips probably isn't the biggest risk you'll take all day. So, take it.
