California and Florida named America's most fun states

If you're in the early stages of planning a U.S. vacation, there are two states that top the list. WalletHub has named California and Florida as the most fun states to visit and live in.

Both states earn top marks

WalletHub did a deep dive into what makes a state fun to visit and live in, and it turns out that two states got the got the title. Both California and Florida got top marks across the board in a variety of categories.

The states were ranked based on data from Beachapedia, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, the National Park Service, and the U.S. Census Bureau.

A combination of statewide attractions, access to national parks, marinas per capita, music festivals, the variety of arts, ideal weather, recreation establishments, and even beer and wine prices determined the final rankings.

There were a total of 26 metrics used, with a few factors getting more weight than others.

California and Florida weren't the only ones to stand out

WalletHub's data and ranking process highlighted the variety the U.S. offers in terms of fun. The top 10 states are each unique, offering their own personality and twist on fun.

Others that ranked in the top 10 most fun states to visit and live in are Illinois, Nevada, New York, Colorado, Washington, Texas, Minnesota, and Arizona.

There are always winners and losers

For all the good news about the most fun states to visit and live in, there were the bottom 10 too. These states were labeled the least fun.

Earning the title of the absolute least fun to visit and live in is West Virginia. The other states that rounded out the bottom 10 are Mississippi, Vermont, Arkansas, Delaware, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Alabama, and Maine.
