Not every TV legend is on screen. Some of the people who shape the shows you grew up with never become household names, but they’re the reason those shows feel like home.

For the cast of Boy Meets World, one of those people was David Kendall, who recently passed. And his loss is hitting hard.

This was not just a coworker

The news of Kendall’s passing was shared by the hosts of the Pod Meets World podcast, Will Friedle, Rider Strong, and Danielle Fishel, in an emotional tribute on May 2. They didn’t just describe Kendall as a writer or producer. They called him a mentor, a collaborator, a real part of their lives. Someone who helped shape them, not just the show.

Kendall worked as a writer, director, and executive producer on Boy Meets World, especially during Seasons 2 and 3, when the show really found its voice. That balance of humor, heart, and growing-up chaos was not accidental. He helped build it.

And his impact did not end with Boy Meets World, which ran from 1993 to 2000. Kendall also worked across other major series, including Hannah Montana and Growing Pains. Through his work on these shows and beyond, he helped guide early creative paths for names like Zendaya, Miley Cyrus, Austin Butler, and the Jonas Brothers.

“We’ve lost a piece of our family”

In their tribute, the cast described Kendall’s impact as something you can’t really measure. Someone who stayed in their lives for decades, long after the show ended.

Calling him a “vital piece of our family,” the cast asked fans to think of him the next time they watch the show, especially during the seasons he helped lead.

Many fans, of course, would be willing to do that, as the comments section quickly filled with messages from those who grew up watching the show. Not just “RIP” posts but people talking about how much they appreciated learning about Kendall through the podcast, which revisits the show, pulling back the curtain to introduce fans to the people who made things happen behind the scenes.

So when someone like Kendall passes, it feels shared.
